Are you really sure you're only going to be using a total of 2 herring as bait fish for the day? If you already plan on using herring as a bait fish on Simcoe then I am already assuming you'll be using more than the limit allows Please post your big catch for all of us to see!

It seems like Xiaolu was just trying to make sure you weren't using more than the legal limit, not sure why you got so angry. If you went into more detail this argument could have been avoided. You made it sound like they are baitfish and there's no limits on them in Simcoe.

Exactly. Which is why I insist: When it comes to interpret fishing regulations, it is up to well, the fishing regulations or a judge in court. It is never and never will be based on what any MNR officer says or said.

Yeah whenever I call the MNR on anything I always make sure to get a name. I also go one step further and send myself an email regarding the call so I have the exact time.

1. Simcoe herring is defined as game fish, and there are an open season and catch/possession limit on it.
2. I can not use game fish from Simcoe as bait fish on Simcoe.
3. From the MNR's fishing regulations I myself did NOT find in print "Simcoe's game fish herring can also be used as bait fish on Simcoe" and finally
4. One particular or any MNR CO/officer said means ABSOLUTELY nothing at all. What counts is what the regulation and/or a judge in a court says. Not what this or that MNR CO/officer said;-)
I think I have expressed myself clearly (I hope), and I am done on this one.

Have you said that Ripley is correct then say that you cant, which is opposite of him. The fact is he has done his research, called the branch director, and confirmed his information. Yet you cant seem to accept this. What ripley is saying is while its may have a limit on Simcoe, due to population concerns, its still considered a bait fish and not a sport fish, therefore regardless of it having a limit you can use it for bait (You can NOT go over your daily limit though, so on Simcoe you can only use 2 a day as bait). With all respect, I'm just clarifying why people aren't getting you, and its cause you keep saying your right, then saying that, which is wrong. Anyhow guys, tight lines stay safe this winter.

A thought: There are two different types of herring in Simcoe? Maybe one is a baitfish and one is the game fish. That's where the confusing/misunderstanding comes from????
