Hello there,

I am curious to know what might be the effect of the rain on the ice at the lower temperature? We are expecting +3 and rain after this now, Would it be bad for Ice? Safe? or is the ice will have no effect of it's strength?

Thanks

I think it should be a good thing for the ice. It will get rid of some snow so the cold can penetrate down into the ice better . It might do damage to some of the soft white ice but shouldn't affect the good black stuff.

Let me get my crystal ball out )
Kidding aside all depends on how much rain, air temperature, etc. With whats in forecast it would not do much damage. Will make good ice by next week.

This is the 3rd or 4th time this uear that just when things starting to shape good a dump of snow or a warm spell puts them back! But soon ... good thing is there is plenty of safe ice in other places to get the itch scratched

i dont think it will hurt it much, will knock down some of the drifts but I've been on the ice in Bay of Quinte when we got a full down pour and it was so strange seeing the water run into the fish holes but ultimately the black ice was not damaged just cleaned off the crap on top

I'm going out on Monday, so hoping the rain plus a few cold days after makes for some nice ice early next week. Might have to rock a solo trip so the safer the ice the better.
