I am heading up to couchiching on Saturday, early in the morning to have holes drilled by sunrise. I will be checking the thickness in the area I will be fishing and will report with pictures throughout the day. Knowing it will be below 0 the rest of the week in the area, the ice should be ok. but if I drill and measure 5" or less, I will send a warning to everyone on here.

A number of perch I've caught on Couch have had yellow grub. You can see them in the fillets. Easy to pluck out as your cleaning them. I'm told they are not harmful if you leave them in (I prefer to pluck'em)

There was a thread a while back about some ways to get them out easily (soak in salt water?) but I can't seem to find it...

To reduce the number of fish/worm taken home, you can check under the gill plate (flesh next to the gills) and along the tail fine for them. If the fish shows signs in these two area, then the fillets will be loaded. Throw fish back. If these two areas are clean, then there's a good change the fillets will have few or none. Seems to be a pretty rule of thumb for Couch.

Still good amounts of ice where I fish. Heading out today. Yesterday there was over 6 inches of slush and all the snow we got last night didn't help but hopefully it stiffened up a little.
