How are the perch grounds looking after this last blast of warm weather? Is the ice holding up out there?

heading to VB to hit the ice ( hopefully hard ice) for fri morn. hearing of some sloppy conditions...how much standing water on the ice roughly if any? coming from the banana belt of Windsor...had some mild weather here as of late... questioning if the trip will be worth while.

Same thing here Been at VB today drilled more than 40 holes and moved around a LOT but was getting only few dinks And not many takers
One gentleman I spoke with did well in the morning and got few nice ones by sight fishing for them
You needed rubber boots and cleats today and Baffin titans did the job superbly
Ice is ok but lots of cracks

I must have been one of the lucky ones. Was at VB yesterday with 2 brothers - fish were few and far between despite moving around and we took nothing off the ice.

Went back solo today and fished the same hole I started out in yesterday and never left it. The only time I wasn't on fish was when I had company nearby and the perch seemed to disappear for an hour or so. Strangely the perch came back after the others moved on. Although most were dinks, I did end up with about 18 in the 9"-11" range (nothing bigger although I did see some real nice ones). I figure my release to kept ratio was at least 6:1 with lots put back in the 7"-8" slot.

I had to switch from minnows to plastic (white on white) just to give my hands a chance to dry out and warm up. I never did use the finder and relied on sight. Lots picked up near bottom and while bouncing/resting in the silt. Even more fun was drawing them off bottom to see how high they'd go and if I could keep my bait away from the small ones. Amazing to watch them scoot in ahead of their larger relations despite my efforts. I could often get a pack of 6 or 7 fish to come up at least half way and a few times within a foot or two of the hole.
