I just move to brechin, I'm not far from thorah island I am wondering if there is good ice fishing around it and where might be some good spots.

Welcome newfishermen, this board has some great tips and info.

I was out near thorah Saturday, about midway between Beaverton and thorah. The ice was making me nervous so I disnt see for myself what was around. Best to ask an operator nearby and maybe get familiar with the area by going out at least once with said operator. If you go to Beaverton harbour there's an operator there, I believe it's floyds huts and I don't think he puts huts out near thorah.

As for good spots, the board has lots of posts about areas around you that are great to fish. I doubt you'll get answers right now too specific spots as lots of guys are on edge to get out there. Also people arnt keen on posting specific areas as this site is popular. You can try and ask for private messages but I've yet too see specific spots posted. Just use the old google machine once you hear of something you might try fishing to find out more info (ie. parking, launching, and exact directions). As well there is the tool bar near the top that has tips also, click on the "fishing tips" tab.

The outfitters in Beaverton are just now starting to put huts out. Your best bet until ice is thicker is to follow their paths out or use one of them. Most will be set up South of Thorah but a couple outfitters do set up at the north end. The west side is deeper and takes a lot longer to freeze up.
