Etiquette, Some of us are new and want to know

Yesterday's video post by steverowbothem touched on some etiquette for ice fishing. Every year we have people start ice fishing and join the board that might not know. I myself am only in my 3rd year and might not know all the etiquette. That being said last would like to hear what the members believe is good ettiquite out there.

Apart from fishing to close I absolutely hate it when people litter the ice.

I agree with that one. Only thing left behind should be footprint

I can't speak for all members but we don't mind company but the lake is big and we don't have to be so close to one another. Most would say to stay about 100 feet between the next person for a few reasons...1) if both have flashers or sonars they do tend to interffeir with the signal..... 2) if your fishing for lake trout or white fish you don't want to get tangled up with the next person if your too close because you don't know which way the fish is going to go like Steve said in his video... 3) if you fish near hut operator who have hut out the same thing not too close as well for the same reasons. The lake is big we don't have to be on top of each other. Lets all respect one another out there and have fun. If I missed anything which I know I have please add on. Littering is the big one I didn't touch on yesterday.
I'm not going to tell you not to keep fish that you're entitled to keep, but try to harvest smaller fish and let the trophies swim again.

I know a missed a few things, Yes take your garbage away with you......

cigarette butts left all over the ice is one of my biggest peeves...
Throw them in a can or bag and dispose of them when you get off the ice...
If that's too hard then time to quit...

yes setting up too close and stop with the foul mouthed hilly billy chatter, i can hear your rude conversations and so can people across the lake, i like to go fishing for peace and quiet not to hear your disgusting swearing and yelling. i would wear ear phones to drown you out but I need to hear incase i have to jump out of my hut to avoid a sledder thundering by my hut at 150 km/hr

what do you all do with minnows? i know dumping them down the hole is not good, but do people tend to just dump your spares on the ice for the gulls to come take?

I take mine back with me or giving them to people near me if I stay for half a day or giving them to guy's coming on to the lake while I'm getting to go home or keep them cnahnge the water and use then the next time I go out if they are still alive......

One thing that grinds my gears is atv's following my trail right to my shack. When I put out my permanent hut I get a nice trail going right to it with my sled. I know its easier going with the atv's to follow a pre made trail but the ruts are annoying. First it feels like your riding a bull from all of the ruts and slush the atvs make. Second you get to your hut to see an atv army set up so close to your hut that your sonar doesnt work properly. Then ive got to jack my hut up more due to all of the slush that comes up. It never fails at the end of the year when ive got a good trail going to pull my hut in through the deep snow someone rips up my trail and ive got to make a new one.

Like steve said..... Keep what you need for a meal, throw back the bigger fish. I'm not a big fan of the freezer stocking. I see guys hit the ice every day and always keeping.

If you see someone land a fish that’s away from the pack and you ride over and stop 20’ away to enter the GPS location. At least have the human courtesy to make eye contact and say hello……….. Better yet, just don’t do that at all…..
