Never the type of story you want to hear about... My condolences go out to any family or friends that may read this board. A not so friendly reminder to stay vigilant out there folks. No ice is safe ice... RIP

Terrible news, no fish is worth a life
not starting an argument or anything, but I do know lots of snowmobilers that don't fish, just out for a cruise.
This is very saddening and no matter how thick the ice is, there is always a risk... ALWAYS before going out for a ride or out on the ice to fish, ALWAYS watch the weather up to a week before hand. I was hoping to get out this and next weekend, on couchiching, although im sure it will be ok for this weekend, I probably wont go. with the rain and warm weather we are having, im uneasy of one cold night to stiffen everything up again. hopefully it gets real cold and stays real cold so we don't have to watch the weather every day (although I still will...) Stay safe everyone and even if you are spudding and the ice seems ok, but you have that gut feeling telling you not to go, don't go! stay safe on the shoreline rather than risking it for a fish or a cruise.

Everyone is just a little to desperate right now to get out and enjoy winter. Want to make the best decision be patient and don't put any machines on the ice right now. The weather has sucked for forming ice this year. Not enough cold and when it did get cold it snowed making a layer to insulate the ice causing a very very slow crappy freeze.
I feel very very sad everytime I read something like this and especially this report. I lost my Uncle in 1982 to cold water in Stony. The impact on my family was horrible and to this day effects many of my family deeply.
