Headed out with precautions this morning off Johnson Beach with a buddy. We got there at 7am and the parking lot was almost full already. We walked out and set up in 60 FOW. Found 3.5" of hard black ice. Marked fish every few minutes or so. Managed to get one to bite a shiner vibrato tipped with minnow heads. It was a good fight with my light action rod rigged with 4lb trilene micro ice line. My buddy helped get it out onto the ice. Marked more fish for another hour or so but couldn't coax another bite.
When I walked off there was a CO waiting at the beach checking licenses. Chatted with him for a couple minutes and left. There were probably 200 people out on the ice when I left.
Good luck and be safe to anyone venturing out!

Nice fish and thanks for the report also.

Were most people out for whities or were there people targeting perch and if so any idea how they made out?

OTH

I know there's perch in Cooks, used to live in Lefroy, now in Barrie by KBay. Saw guys in boats fishing for perch right up to ice in so why wouldn't there still be perch in the area. Just asking.

Pretty sure most people were there for lakers and whiteys.
There were a few huts in shallow but not sure if they got anything.
It was a slow day for everyone out there from people I talked to. Light finicky bite
