Worm ALERT !

Hi there,

Got a few jambo yesterday and I spotted one of them had a whole bunch of white worms inside its flash. I threw the piece away and froze the other once to eliminate possible contamination on the other fish.

Just curios, Are we Ok to eat the once that I think are clean? Is perch from Simcoe ok to eat?(the clean one). Or should I throw the entire catch away?

Hey! It's Yellow Grub. Can be fairly common in Perch. Once you take them out it's okay to eat, they aren't harmful at all. Also I wouldn't be saying that you threw fish out on here, that's illegal. Lol

i think he meant he threw them outside to freeze.........

As long as you cook it well, shouldn't be a problem. The perch in Simcoe are pretty good. If you go up to Orillia, it's common for those perch to have worms.

From what I've read you'd be suprised how many grubs/parasites are allowed in the fish at your local fish and chips joint

Grosses me out tho , I try and pick most of em out

Thanks for The Worm Alert it new too you as your a newbie at ice fishing but we all know about it..... I would say 90% or the perch in Lake Simcoe don't have worms or grubs in then but the ones you catch from Lake Couchaching 90% do have worms or grubs in them it is a shallower and warmer lake than Simcoe. But it you cook it well no need to worry......

That one thing l like about this board is that members do try to help you out with any question you have, and there lots of info new and old members to learn.

Out of the 24 keepers I got today only came across one wit couple worms

Never seen worms in Simcoe perch personally but haven't got any this year yet. Put the fillets into a bowl filled with water ice and pickling salt. Soak it in that and worms usually come out.

Hold your fillets up to a light helps spot the one's deep in the meat...

Cook it well and enjoy. If you knew half the crap you ate with processed food you'd stop eating and die of starvation lol.

Nipissing Perch have them too. I am fishing around North Bay and I find about every 10 perch or so has a few.

I have a camp on the West Arm of Nip and the perch and small mouth bass are so bad there, I wouldn't eat them personally. Even the walleye have a few and we just pick them out.

For some reason Large mouth bass don't seem to get those white worms. Has anyone seen them get them?

Cooked the worms taste like fish to me anyway.
