Got to the lake this morning by about 8 am looking to get a couple perch . Before I could even set up my electronics I could see a school of jumbos under me. So after bad mouthing the freedom minnow and having some fish check it out but not commit last week I figured I'd give it another shot. This time tipped with a red salmon egg.

By 9 am I was done keeping fish....needless to say I take back anything bad I said about this lure lol . Kept around 20 perch which is more than enough for me and tossed back most of the tanks. All clean fish no grubs at all. During the perch frenzy I had what I'd say was about a 20 lb pike fly in and grab my tiny perch coloured freedom minnow.

Fought him for about 25 mins on 4lb test and an ultra light rod not ever expecting to actually get him in . Got his head up to my 8 inch hole and it barely fit. I was able to get most of his head through and my hook let go and away he went back down the hole. I wasn't even mad other than not getting a pic of the brute. I was shaking from the fight that was good enough for me.

Super nice day out there ...best I've had so far this year.

Nice haul.... you never know what you'll get into when fishing for perch..... using lite gear and Big Bad Mr. Pike shows up and you have to fight him on lite gear.... At least you got to see him... Go job....
