We started out of Virginia Beach at 7:30am this morning, I parked at the paid parking, $10 and well worth it! My buddy brought his quad, so we hooked up the 2 man pop up and the equipment sled, and we had a convoy. Stopped in at Ice Hut outfitters to get minnows, $5, so $15 and we were off to the races!

We headed straight out from VB until we reached 10-12Fow with a mix of sand and small vegetation on bottom. Popped 2 holes with the gas auger, then dropped down my underwater camera to take a quick look, some dinks swimming around, but we decided to give it a try. We were surrounded by dozens of huts within 1-2 hours, a lot of snowmobile and quad noise pretty much all day

We put the first two on the ice within minutes, 10-11", we felt comfortable that we picked a decent spot. I picked up a new tank top heater, I connected it to a 20lb tank, and it worked beautifully! With the top 2 vents open, we had room temperature all day

Over the next 8 hours, we had schools of Jumbos move in, feeding frenzy! But we could not get the really big ones to commit. They would hang back while the dinks would take the bait over and over again. We used spoons tipped with minnow head and jigging raps, which won the day. At around 11am, BAM! Finally nailed a huge jumbo! Over 13", pic included for your pleasure.

All together, I think we took home 15 with about 5 being nice fish, 1 of course was my beast. We moved once to shallower ground, but headed home soon after that. As we were headed off of the ice, Mr MNR was waiting for us on the road He asked to see our catch, checked our licenses, then pointed out that we were not wearing helmets! To be honest, in our haste to get out on the ice this morning, we just forgot. We caught a break fishing friends, the nice MNR officer let us off with the warning

We lucked out! Total $15 for the day, great company, lots of action and some fish for lunch tomorrow! The horseshoes made the ride home a little uncomfortable, but I'm not complaining!

I can't say definitively that one is better than the other, however, I always put more fish in the pail at VB.

Nice catch Cirinnaf, fishing was hot yesterday if you can get them to bite, where you paid for parking yesterday, can you park there with a trailer for the Quads?
