I headed out around 10:30 from Coochaching beech park. Walked roughly 1 km where I thought I may be in water close to 15-20 but was surprised to find 11.5 FOW. I would have gone further but I need to sharpen my auger blades because it took me at least 30 seconds to drill each hole so I decided to stay there. I was sitting on easily 10" of solid ice. It didn't take long before we had a few schools of perch pass beneath me. I found the jumbos were very aggressive with dinks being very careful and only taking my minnow instead of my jig. We also had many pike pass under with a few being aggressive enough to smash a small gold spoon I was using.
Landed 10+ over 11" plus about three good eating size pike.. as I was pulling up for the day I had a 25"+ pike grab my spoon.. faught it for a good 5 mins on light gear only for it to throw my spoon at the hole!! All in all great day out.
