$5 a scoop is what I'm used to paying.... 8.50 is definitely a little high I'd say
It was a very "intimate" scoop of small shiners. By mid-morning I pretty much had names assigned and was apologising to each as I stuck a hook through -- "Eddy was a favourite: strong character and a good swimmer...." (OK. A bit to far. But you get the point on how many = a scoop.) I'll comment no more.
I paid 10.50 at All Outdoors in Vaughn (Believe that was the name of the place) but it was an extremely large scoop. I got that plus a small scoop (5$) as I was buying for 3 people and didn't want to run out, got WAYYYYYY to many, honestly a small scoop there was all that was really needed for 2 guys for whitefish. For 2 Id go one large scoop if going for perch, 1 small scoop if theres only 1. Going to salt all my left overs (Loads) and use em that way.

I like to look at things from different angles.
I also like to blame everything on the ridiculous carbon tax. So yeah, gas, transport, delivery, HYDRO BILLS, to keep the tanks running all day. . . It's true, a certain Ontario premier is the cause of most of your costly minnows.
But! How much do some of us spend on a single lure? Granted, lures are reusable. But does it really cost more to produce one piece of plastic with eyelets and hooks than any other?
Then there is the fact that forums like this add to the general knowledge and inspiration to fellow fisherman and increase the demand for things like minnows, lures, rods, float suits etc. Prices rise with demand. I can point out that I work in the bicycle industry, and in 1999 a crazy expensive bike was $4000. Now I deal regularly with $12000 bikes and as high as $17000! Do the math. Inflation is nowhere near that. The weak CDN dollar has little to do with it in the long term (adds fluctuations year to year but again, the math doesn't add up.) cycling has increased in popularity greatly since 1999.
Point is, we're wiling to pay it, so we will get charged it.

I didn't know you could save money buy using your own bucket. I have walked into a place with a bucket, they put my Minnows I. The bag and the bag in the bucket and still charged me $8.00 for a scoop, (15) I counted, very small minnows. Guess I better start catching my own. On the bright side I did have some action out yesterday. Lots of chasers and takers but I did t set the hook fast/ hard enough and lost a few. Oh well

I'm not against forums like this by the way! just sayin'. Increase in demand = paying out your a##. And forums like this add to increased demand. Fact of life.

Don't use minnows! Use some of the thousands of dollars worth of lures and artificial baits in your tackle box! Lol Yes some bait shops are criminals! I only use artificial now! My favorite bait cost me .25c for 8!
