Nobody likes paying for live bait when it appears costly, but it is what it is. there are places that are still reasonable enough, so I try to hit those.
Going back in time tho.
I recall.
gas 45 cents a gallon!
brick 3 bedroom home in Toronto 20. K
First new car 2. k
first new fishing reel 40.00 bucks...Mitchell 308........wtf
smokes 40 cents a pack.
We can whine, In the end you want to go, you pay. all you can do is look for best deal

I thought I'd try trapping my own this fall and keeping them in a cage in the pond until ice fishing season. But when I tallied up the time to tend the trap, transfer the catch and then maintain the cage through winter, $5 or so for a scoop didn't seem bad at all. The bonus is I have extras to bring home and feed my pond stock.

Hey my question is where you went for that price? In town Barrie? I was charged 18$ for 2 scoops of minnows. I understand bulls have to be paid but it's getting ridiculous when they count out the 24 minnows and say I gave you two for free.

Hey Trevor 97……..I think you are talking about the same place where I purchased my minnows in Barrie. I paid $ 8.50 for a small scoop of very small shiners………so small that I found them almost useless!!

When the minnows were in thick this fall in Barrie. I did tell my brother he were over top of millions of dollars. I guess that one dip net we took paid off the dip net and some! (Stayed within possession limit)
Dollar store! Most of the stuff in there is priced more then a dollar. 😪

Bought bait up north this year but not going to mention where.....3 dozen came to just under 30 bucks with a bag with oxygen and he counted out all 36 so I said to him if he wanted to get rid of something the dead ones he could throw them in.. NO SIR can't do that... Drove 35 minutes to go get them what a joke.. Anyway I've never gone back nor will eye... Luckily are minnow traps paid off that we set.... I can remember paying 2.50 for a dozen and now the minnows cost as much as the fish we catch in the stores.... Lol

I thought it was crazy when I found out the lake in town here was charging between 7-8.50 for a dozen minnows(exactly) but when I read your post of other shops charging that also, I said WOW. $5 has been and will remain the standard price in most true bait shops. $5 a dozen for med-lg shiners, $5 a scoop for smalls. Anybody charging more than that is either the only spot around(and taking advantage) or out of touch with fishermen.

Yep, just to let people know All Canadian Outdoors I believe is the name, they are off of the 400 in Vaughan, 2 mins off if that. Anyone heading up from Toronto or using the 400 its right there. Anyhow, for 5$ they give ya a pretty nice "Small" scoop, or for 10$ they give ya a big scoop with prob 3 dozen in it. If not more. They also have good hours. Had a good experience going there last weekend, first time and wont be my last *Wasn't asked or paid in anyway for this lol, just thought id let people know where they can get a good price on minnows*

What Idont understand is why people spend a small fortune on verbrados! like I said earlier my buddy paid double this year for 10 gallons of minnows from a harvester for his pond so it's not the small shops fault.I love the shop in Barrie cause the FREE info on ice conditions and fishing reports and what has been working etc he has or makes time for you.Ask the girl at the minnow counter at Canadian tire how the ice is or how the fishing is and you will end up on cooks bay fishing for salmon

Plus we fishermens needs to also help out and reduce the use of plastic bags. Bring a good bucket that won't leak or spill. In the winter you do not need oxygen and the minnows can stay alive longer. Bait shops will charge you extra for bag, box and oxygen. That is usually like $3.

Bought 2 scoops for $10 at the little hut at the end of Haden Rd. The count was awesome but the minnows were extremely small for my liking. It turned out to be no problem, they worked and we had more than enough for 2 people fishing all day.
