Great day to play with my toys at Kempenfelt

Had a great day out today despite the smell of skunk! Nonetheless it was a great opportunity to take out one of my work buddies who is an ice fishing virgin, and show him what beasts lay beneath the ice! We fished 86 feet today and despite having whities circle our baits, nudge it, kiss it, and pretty much have their way with it.. none of them really committed to a strike. I did manage to hook this guy in the video shortly after i put the phone down, but lost him part way up about 10 feet from the hole! Although it would have been nice to put one of these whities on the ice for the virgin, we had a great time just the same!

wow that ice isnt very thick! is that a marcum setup?

We had a good 4" inches of black ice at 87 feet. This is a totally custom built underwater camera with 150ft of cable that a paired up with a Fishunter 3D and a sweet looking Husky lunch bag that really looks like a more professional setup like the Narcum.

Because i built the camera myself, I really wasn't limited to any specific length of cable. I chose to use 150 feet of round security camera cable specifically because i know that would cover me in whatever water i fish during the ice season at Simcoe, which makes it a very versatile rig!

that is an awesome set up. I was kinda thinking of getting an underwater camera to see why fish might hit the same hooks over and over and leave the other ones alone.

You know what, you are exactly right. You learn so much about their behavior by watching their body language as they interact with your bait presentation. I learned pretty quickly that they did not want to even look at the larger Vibratos, and the half ounce natural shiner is the only thing that seemed to peak their interest yesterday. I literally tried everything in my tackle box, and that is the only thing that seemed to call them in and keep them there circling like sharks... Very very finicky sharks that would not commit to a strike.. lol

As a side note, i was going to build a custom battery pack for this using 18650 lithium ion cells, and i still might, but yesterday's fishing trip was a great test of the 20,000mah USB battery bank that i used to power this setup, and it proved to me that even in the cold they performed beautifully! I only used one battery bank the whole day from 7am to 4:30pm, the camera was on the entire time and i had approximately 30% battery left at the end of the day and i even had the led lighting on for several hours in the morning, and i chaged up the sonar around lunch time as well.

So i would call that a completely successful test, and I'm wondering if I should just stick with the USB battery banks as the main source of power to keep things simple and versatile.

That is an awesome DIY rig.
