Guys,
Hopefully heading out saturday with my son and two of his teamates (and their dads) from their novice hockey team. I usualy fish perch off willow but poor ice has me thinking of cooks or VB. I want to get the boys some fish, and dont really care if they are all Dinks. We are walking out, and I find we can usually call in at least a few fish if we can get in water deeper than 8-10' so wondering how far out from Hadden road we would have to walk to get in the 12-5' range.
Also Is the pay parking lot just west of Hadden on the lake (north) side of the road?

i would recommend going to Port Bolster to fish just so you don't have to deal with parking. Casey charges $5 for parking i believe. As for finding depth... Navionics.

We fished Virginia Beach the last 2 weekends and it has been a ZOO out there. We caught dinks at different intervals and never saw a keeper around our hut. I believe and just my thoughts are with the amount of noise and traffic out there the fish are not in that Hadden Road area. I have heard of some catching going on during the week but the 2 weekends of safe ice I have not seen a fish over 8 inches or caught anything over 6 inches. I asked an outfitter there and he said way to busy on the ice during weekends. That is my take on things. I am moving on to a different place to try and get at least a meal. It was like a city out there.

Navionics Web app Great tool
x 2. use it WAY more than I should. has helped me vastly! especially when fishing new lakes and new species! not only does it show the depth charts, it will usually show access points as well. does not show if it is public or privately owned though. but another good tool google will help with that. you can also get the phone app as well. they have a free trial, but you can usually just delete the app and all data used for it and redownload it and it will work again.

I agree with SD CHEWIE. I was at VB on Monday and it was still a gong show. That much noise on the ice over shallow water can't be a good thing. It took us 9 hours and 5 location changes to scratch out a dozen keepers. Still a fun day....the weather was beautiful and I showed my GF why perch are so expensive, lol.

We did real good at VB had to move a few times but really got on them good. Need to stay away from the crowds. And shame on the people who drive right up next to ya

Its so worth the cost ($16 first year $9 after). When i get to the access turn on the route tracking and now know where you have been and if necessary you have a safe route to follow back, also lets you drop waypoints after the fact. If its super foggy out you can still easily find your way back.
The app saves your routes too. So i can see where i went when i was fishing the same place last year!

Hey Guys thanks, I actually already do have navionics on my phone, one of the dads was asking about the walk out and I totally forgot about checking navionics.
Will let you know how we do (if we go,a lot can happen to the ice between now and saturday but we should be good), we might even try port bolster as suggested, but I haven't fished that side before at all, but I do hear good things about it, and Taj at Casey's, so that definitely an option.
