I am heading up as well on Saturday early am (hoping to be fishing by sunrise) I will be heading out with a small group. DO NOT FORGET your spuds and/or augers to punch holes off the beaten path to check ice thickness and quality! I do not have a spud but a powered auger and drill holes every 20-30 feet to check. I also walk about 20-30 feet away from the typical paths to drill holes and clear away enough snow to make it obvious! will be bringing branches off the Christmas tree to further mark them as it will be warm. Make sure you stay dry. I am willing to take the drive as I have only been out 1 time so far! the ITCH is killing me! but that being said, if any part of me ever tells me im uneasy, im out! Ive been following the weather since Saturday every hour almost and watching the current temps to see whats going on. unfortunately the freezing rain sounds like it hit afternoon yesterday when it was -1 to 0 as opposed to in the morning when it was -5. coulda helped protected the ice from the warmth to come. that being said. I will post my findings ASAP when I get out if I do.

I was there on Saturday last weekend and was sitting on a comfortable 10", maybe more with a substantial amount being solid black ice. I believe this weekend is a sure bet, however there may be some water build up on top of the ice. Being careful never hurts, the beauty of this lake is that (for the most part) you don't have to go far to find productive areas.

I was out just before the rain and there was at least 12 inches where I was ... I can't see this weather doing all that much damage to the ice other than areas with current or other problems. Just going to be very wet ....a cold night or two will fix it right up.

I agree but the problem is there are no substantial minus overnight temps for over a week. This weekend should be fine but what about the next 28th 29th. The long range doesn't want to cooperate. Frustrating to watch. Fingers crossed.

I'm planning on heading out early Saturday AM as well, with spud and floater suit as well. Will be in my new Frabill flip up. Pop in say Hi. I have only been out this year once as well with no luck. I'm itchin so bad!!! Of course I booked some vaca for the end of next week thinking we'd be into some good ice by then, had to beg the boss to switch to the Monday Tuesday after. Hopefully things stiffen up over the cooler weekend that's forecasted.

By the sounds of the post your the owner of it...? If so, just remember if it does go through the fines youll have to pay and the cost of removal. If your worried it may go through take it off soon. Just a friendly heads up

I was out today and noticed alot of fresh large cracks in the ice. Personally I would not be bringing an atv or sled out until we have a good cold spell. With that said there was a few bombing around.

Im not the owner of the permy its my friends I was with but he lets me use it whenever and trust me I was pritty uneasy riding around out there on the ATV. I dont own machine and if I did I wouldnt be out there on it he kept reassuring me it was good for last night but admitted me may have to take the hut off as he himself will not be venturing out for atleast 2 weeks as well
