What do you mean by out of season? Are we talking about the bluegills and crappie?
Aren't they open all year? See below from the regs for zone 17.

Crappie
Open all year
S - 30
C - 10
Sunfish
Open all year
S - 300, only 30 may be greater than 18 cm (7.1 in.).
C - 15

Am I missing something?

It was out of season and it sounds like a$$ and it was a huge a$$ and promptly put back down the hole I was surprised
