Went out for a couple hours this evening to search for some Black Crappie on a near by lake. Froze our tails off without the heater but found a nice school of them. They weren't super active. Managed to pull about 11 or so through the hole. All on artificial bait, they didn't seem to want waxies. Would have tried minnows but forgot to grab some before I left. Always enjoy fishing for slabs!

Nice work..... It's been a pretty good winter for crappies so far. Only going to get better as spring nears. March is usually great. April the boat comes out and it's unreal.

I've only fished for crappie a couple of times in Canada, and both were in Simcoe. Is one particular Kawartha lake better than the others for them, or are they all fairly equal in populations? I intend to search them out there from the boat as soon as the water gets a bit "softer".

Most of all the kawartha lakes are chalked full of them. Some are better than others, but all of them will produce numbers of crappies.

That warms my heart. My "mentor" is a serious bass man who never even talks about crappie, even though he has a cottage on Pigeon. He's been great with my bass education on the Kawartha's, but I don't like to limit myself....especially since bass season doesn't start until late June. I'm not going to wait that long to hit the lake!!

Nice Catch! Did you catch them deep or shallow if I may ask? We have a family cottage on a Kawartha lake and I have had trouble in the winter trying to figure them out.

Thanks
Mike
