Hello everyone.

We are heading to Balsam this weekend, just wondering if anybody is having any luck out there this year. She's a big lake, and with Ice fishing only recently opening there, its been a tough hunt. Haven't really heard or see anybody catching much on the hard water. Am I missing something? Or is it truly that tight out there. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Morning,
Got a cottage on the lake, hadn't had a chance to get out there this year yet. Nore have I heard any reports. Your right big lake tough to know where they will be. If I hear anything I'll let you know.

Gunna hit a few sopts wehre tey should be.. but there are plenty of places to school up on balsam.. could be a work out for the auger. Ill let you know how we made out.. If your up that was, we will be the group with the old sleds and an atv, with a giant pop up clam. stop in say hello.. Cheers

I am new to the lake. I went out 3 times with a neighbour that doesn't usually fish Balsam. I had one hit something that was quite heavy but lost it without seeing what it was, otherwise we were skunked. This lake will take a lot of learning. Does anyone know where to get a contour map of the lake? That might help with my learning.

That's encouraging. Trembly;s in Orillia might have a map, or online somewhere I'm sure. I use Navionics app on the phone, also have it installed on my Lowrance attached to the ATV for hardwater. The channel points on either side of the Trent would be a good place to start. but be careful the ice is not the best in those areas.

Ya it works great, Excellent tool when trying out a new lake. It has helped me catch at least twice as many fish over the past few years.. and nice ones too. Great to know what's going on down there without driving all over the lake. Now you can at least narrow done your search to certain areas. Good Luck. I'll let you know how we make out on Balsam this weekend. should be a nice weekend.

that would be great. I have a group coming next weekend we will probably be in North Bay since that is where my house is. We will have 5 kids with us so we won't be able to travel too far.

Which side of the Park are you one in North Bay. We head out from the west side of the Provincial Park, Just down from the Store. There are some nice areas we are going to try right along the park ledge,, and a little further east into the bay...

I am on the north side of Balsam Lake PP. being new to the area I don't know the store you mentioned. having looked at the Navionics map it looks like there are some drop-offs near where I can get on the lake. I know there is a huge weed bed in the bottom of the bay but that would be too far to travel with the kids.

The store is on the Opposite side of the Park along that shoreline. Between the park and the First point North has a great shelf, Summer time is VERY productive along that stretch. I'm gunna give'r a shot for sure this weekend. Easy spot to get to with the kids. The park is fun for kids in the winter too. the playground at the beach is good. Keep an eye for Deer along the beach. they are not timid and will walk right out.
