With the warm temps lately it has me getting excited for the early season crappie fishing. The Pigeon river up near Omemee is almost wide open. The earliest I have put my boat in and was successful finding spring crappies was March 24th a few years ago.

I think over the next week or so I will get some gear ready and my boat reorganized. Most years it's not til the 1st week or even the 2nd week of April. We might have a chance at some open water March fishing this year !!!

Last year I shoveled snow off the ramp to get out trout fishing, but once I was out there it was worth it. I've busted an inch or two of crappy ice to get out to open water before and pounded the lakers trolling right along the ice edge. Spring can't come soon enough for me!

It's been so long since I last launched the boat, I've almost forgotten how to back up a boat trailer. I'm thinking of taking a trip south just to get my prop wet!

Just have to throw the battery's and the fire extinguisher in and I'm good to go. Boat is stored indoors indoors almost all the time... I almost went out last weekend but it was just a wee bit windy... Cheers Dave..

Just make sure you check your boat insurance coverage before you launch. A lot of policies don't cover you from Dec 1 to April 1 if you are in the water. They will cover your boat as long as it is on a trailer. We found a new company which covers year round so don't have to be stuck on shore during a late freeze or early thaw.

My boat is store in the garage and all battery are connected with trickle charger, what I have to do is take it down from the jack stand, get it out from the garage, check all the connections, turn the key to make sure it start and get out all the fogging oil. If the weather continue like this, late March will be on the water .............

Day by day I watch the open water get closer to my dock. It's less than 40 feet away today. As soon as my dock's clear, I'll be splashing my tin can.

She usually comes out of storage first week of April to get ready for second week annual kawartha pike beatdown. Looks like we could be getting a head start again this year
