Anyone here go after ice out pike? Some of my favorite fishing. This pike pictured was from a harbor, soon after the ice melted. Anyone have any info on when abouts or what they hit at ice out? Cheers!

Locations too specific. Please read Board rules.

Last year I went to Dalrymple in mid April. I had never seen it so packed. The Ramp was flooded as well and CO officers were out inspecting boats. I ended up getting the skunk that day.

I like a suspending jerkbait or meat just before it closes in march.

Yup ...I think you are missing something...
Dalrymple is in zone 17 and pike is opened all year...

My choices as well! Also have luck (mostly trolling bays in the spring) with a mepps black fury #5 tipped with a worm.

I guess my question is, would anyone have a good idea on when the pike bite gets aggressive in he bays and river mouths in the spring? I have had luck right at ice out and some years not till it gets much warmer. Looking to get the boat out in a river mouth and just don't wanna go to early if they are not paticularly aggressive yet.

Pike are generally always aggressive dependant on the weather patterns... Once water temps hit the optimal for spawning and if you can find some green weeds the fish will be the most aggressive. Shallow bays that are adjacent to deep water are the best bet to finding big spring time pike. Do a quick search for spawning temps for pike. If you find bays with the right water quality and temps you should find pike all over them.

just gotta work em slow when the waters cold , hard and soft jerkbaits are hard to beat , twitch twitch long pause , repeat. live bait can also be the ticket when its Right after ice out or still some ice in bays and their really lethargic.
