Emily for sure; I'll be there for bass opener this year and will be posting a full report and review of the campground when I get back. It will be similar to my report on Silver Lake PP last year, for those wondering.

I've never fished the lower end of Pigeon (barely explored south of Big Island), how is this area? On Navionics, it seems extremely shallow. Some areas listed as dangerous. Is it worth launching from Emily and exploring?

I've had lots of luck with bass in the river and lower end of the lake, see lots of Muskie hanging out too but it is very shallow down there, good luck.

My parents have been going to Camp Ashtabula for 30 years. The place is fantastic and the owners are amazing! If you are looking for camping, I agree with Emily park, but cottaging, I STRONGLY recommend Camp Ashtabula run by Rob and Donna Carter. They are VERY friendly, clean cottages, built a lagoon to protect docked boats from the business of the lake and a boat launch on site.
Ive caught some good walleye right in the swimming area they have at night. PB on pigeon was caught wading into the water at 10:30 pm 27.2" on an Orange J-11 (overall PB walleye was caught on lake Erie 12.5 pound walleye caught in 6 feet of water, sand, 1:30 pm on a 27c mid-july day trolling a Red Meps 3 after begging my dad to let me troll in. his response was "you aren't going to catch anything, its a waste of time", I was 8 at the time)
Definitely give them call. usually pretty booked up july and august, but usually no problem booking june and September.

As for danger on the lake. its usually pretty good. one rule of thumb is if you are going right down the lake past the gannon narrows, stay in the middle in the paths between the reeds. my sister and her bf have a house and they fly through there on their boat all the time. never had a problem. there is a sand bar which you can spot on navionics before the island on the south end. that can be hazardous. late in the summer it can get really gungy with thick weeds. for the most part (with exception of the sand bar, and staying to the left of the island at the south end going right up there) unless you see stuff sticking out of the water you should be good to go south of big island. I have spent many weeks on that lake and have never had a problem. just beware of the traffic it gets on weekends! it can get crazy busy, where youd think by the size of the waves, it would be 30-40kmph winds, but its just because of boat traffic.

Thanks for the tips on navigating the lower end. Sounds like I'll be doing some "southern" exploring as soon as the water gets softer. The water at that end should warm up sooner than the north end.
I've already experienced the boat traffic on Pigeon and Lower Buckhorn. Lost a new rod/reel because of a 4' wake thrown by a cruiser on plane coming around a corner!!

On navionics, look for Three Sisters shoal. It is south west of Big Island. If you dont follow the channel markers, you will come up quik. It is only marked with plastic jugs. Have seen more than a few boats take off there botttem end there.
