Went out today at 4 pm and the ice was OK. Thinner than a few days ago at approx 8". When we left at 8:30 I noticed areas that seemed "spongy". I realized it was weak as I broke through about 100 metres off shore, luckily I was able to get out and find better ice to get off. The area is on the north side of Tindle/Fife's bay but I would not consider anywhere there safe right now. There were snowmobile and ATV tracks as recent as today. Bad idea. Just thought I'd give you a heads up. There were a few guys out.

was out Friday out from horseshoe island on the west side and found 14 -16 inches of ice everywhere I went and the shoreline at the side road I parked on was perfect. Did notice that the ice was flaky on the way in and there was a large pressure crack looking towards the north.

Well things have changed a lot. When we walked out from the same side road access point everything was fine, and, the ice in the middle was solid at a maximum 8-9". Coming back it was spongy and moving up and down as we walked. Suddenly gave way and I was in the water, obviously pretty scary. There's no way I'd trust it now.

Thanks for the heads up. I am glad you are ok, must have been very scary breaking through the ice. I drove over to Chemong last week to fish but as soon as I drove across the causeway I saw open water all over the place so I turned around and went home. Now I'm just waiting until I can get the boat back in!

Went to Chemong yesterday, hoping to get in more one fish. Got to the access opposite horseshoe island and walked out and cut a hole and the ice was only 2-3 inches thick plus there was a big pressure crack just out towards the middle and it had opened up. Two other lads came along and tagged along up to the access just a bit below the causeway. Shore was good and ice was 6-9 inches everywhere we test drilled. Went out from there and caught numerous perch between the three of us and some decent bluegills. With the weather coming that is absolutely the end of my ice fishing season , and wouldn't recommend to anybody to anybody to try going out on that ice now.
