Thumb on the spool, other hand lightly holding the Texas rigged plastic, drop the rod, lift and release, the line feathers off the reel just right. The lure slides silently up beside and under the fallen log.
Let it drop, just enough tension to keep some feel on it.
It hits bottom, slight lift of the rod, and then it's there. That " thump" that we've been waiting 7 months to feel again. Reel up just a bit and Crank That Rod Back!

Or...

Finally back on the big water, open as far as you can see.
After motoring around the shoal you've spotted several nice white marks on the side imaging unit, now it's time to drop the trolling motor.
First, a jerkbait goes sailing as far as that new baitcasting rod will put it.
Crank it down, jerk, jerk, pause. Repeat. There's a big black spot about four feet behind the lure, interested, but not wanting to commit just yet.
Quickly but quietly, that rod gets laid down on the deck, and your favourite 7' spinning rod with the dark brown tube gets in your hands and out she flys.
The line goes down, down, and then suddenly, but just so faint that only the more experienced angler would notice, that teeny, tiny "jump" of the line.
Again, reel down until tight and bam, she's on, and suddenly there's 5 pounds of brown fury shaking its head as it flys skyward.

Take your pick, either way, let's hope for this sort of thing to happen to all the good members in the upcoming weeks

I've already started with the tackle, just brought the boat home and I will spend some time this week switching from walleye mode to bass mode.

5 fish / 22lbs in a small tri-lake tourney last summer. Biggest was 5.95lbs. Caught a lot of big fish last summer. Hope they are still going this year.
