I'll add something.... Usually by this point in bass season I have made a few positive posts. Not this year so far.

What I am finding is generally smaller largemouth. 2 to 2 3/4 lb class fish. I haven't caught a big one yet. The river is still high, lots of weeds, but slime all over them. Algae in most areas too. Noticeable current flowing also. I am having no trouble catching a bunch of fish each outing. Sometimes 20+ in just a few hours, but still can't get those bigger ones that I normally do this time of year.

With the high water it's not possible to pitch way back under docks. We have no gap between water level and dock. Only smaller bass appear on the edges.

I have talked to a few other very good bass fisherman and am getting mostly the same report from other nearby lakes. The overall weight was down in the Sturgeon bassmasters tourney on Canada Day this year.

I'm confident the big ones are around, just been a very weird year so far with all the weather systems and wind. Late spring, late spawn. Carp are still slashing around now too. Usually they are done by July.

Nice posts and nice pics of some bass! Pigeon has been tough the last couple of nights! Mostly trolling in and around weed lines 10-15ft of water and trying everything in the box! My buddy managed to boat a 40" Musky in and around bottom islands on Monday morning (8am) trolling with a big a## yellow and green rapala and Monday night we hooked into a nice eye about 22" in and around the channel going into Sturgeon. Have seen a lot of boats on the water, chatted with a few, lots of smallies and a few eyes (smaller) being caught but nothing to write home about....yet! My buddy sent me a message yesterday saying his dad has hooked into a few eyes down by Gannons so we tried this last night but no luck - spoke to one guy out there trolling as well and he only hooked into one in a couple of hours - so pretty quite considering. I'll send the pic of my buddies Musky, his personal best and needless to say he was pretty stoked!
cheers,
Hookum

Tough "slayin" on Pigeon this week! We have tried to target the "eyes" in the evening and no luck within the last 3 nights maybe the worst dry spell for me in a long, long time! We have tried a bunch of our regular spots and have tried almost everything in our boxes and no go....yet! Lots of small pan fish being caught but they can be caught anywhere. We definitely have seen some biggies jump but not a ton being caught, as well we have spoke to a few others and it's been pretty tough "slayin!" The water temp has gone from 68 last week to 72-73 as of yesterday - so that's my excuse all of the fish are now just too hot and bothered to chomp off an "all you can eat buffet" at the end of my line!!
cheers,
hookum

We could use a string of stable summer days to get things moving.

Hi Fishheads,

I was out second day of bass opener.

Caught over 40 large mouth between 3 people on the boat. But barely anything hitting 2lb. I am all over the north end. We even fished through the three rain storms.

I spoke to a local and they said fish seems smaller.

Tight lines boys!

Just a recap fishing Pigeon (hard) for the last 10 days. First off we were mostly trying to target the "eyes" in the morning and at dusk - we tried everything in our boxes and hit our usual spots even tried some spots that we have not fished in years. This probably has been one of the slowest fishing trips in years for us! I think total we kept 4 or 5 eyes within the slot and threw a few back a few under and one over the slot - extremely disappointing considering the amount of time on the lake. Although we did not put the time in like we did the eyes a ton of smallies caught - which are always fun I don't think we ended keeping any. As for the Musky we definitely tried to catch some Musky again trying some of the spots we have fished for years and threw out the bigger lures. The highlight was my buddy catching his PB in at around 40" and then released for another day. All and all the weather was wacky, the water was wacky from 68-74 degrees within a few days, the winds (at times) were wacky and the fish are just down right wacky! Good luck to everyone fishin Pigeon this coming summer - there are definitely some biggies jumping out there the only question is are they "wacky" enough to hit the lure you are using and when and where you are using it?!
cheers,
hookum
