Two Courtland men have been fined a total of $3,000, and a Straffordville man $1,500 for recent fishing violations.
Henry Funk and Gerardo Funk pleaded guilty and were each fined $1,500 for possessing an over-limit of walleye.
Court heard that on July 27, 2017, a conservation officer was checking for compliance with the Ontario Fishery Regulations in Elgin County. The officer contacted Henry Funk and Gerardo Funk in the village of Port Burwell as they were returning from fishing on Lake Erie. An investigation revealed that the anglers had caught 11 walleye over the daily limit of six for this zone.
Jeffrey Marr of Straffordville also pleaded guilty and was fined $1,500 for possessing an over-limit of walleye.

Justice of the Peace Abdul A. Chahbar heard both cases in the Ontario Court of Justice, St. Thomas, on August 10.

And they are not Asian! I guess those who keeps commenting that the no English speaking Asians are always the ones breaking the regulation have nothing to say!

Asians (white buckets) are always the first to be criticized when a situation like this occurs. You hear people complain more about Asians than every other race when it comes to taking over the limit fish. But then you hear a story like this and those that always likes to criticize are no where to be seen. Race should never be brought up when a situation like this occurs but it just so happens that they like to throw in the (white bucket) to make them feel better. Walleye is the most sought after game fish here. I bet there are some people on this board guilty of taking over the limit walleyes all the time. I'm glad that those 3 individuals got caught with over possession. We are all human and all it takes is a few people to ruin it for the rest of us.

Poaching has nothing to do with the race of the fisherperson! It boils down to the individual(s)! Greed and lack of respect towards regulations in place usually get the best of the individual. Besides the fine, they should also be given a period of time where they are banned from fishing to let them think good and hard of what they did..... "time out" never kills anyone!
Now...... when you snatch this pebble from my hand, you may go!

good point longshank since they just announced the unpaid and uncollectable fines already issued. if you break the law while hunting they take everything used for the unlawful act etc gun, atv, truck and licence. plus give you a fine. so why aren't the rules the same for fishing etc poles, nets, boat , trailer, truck jmo

Definitely not acceptable taking that many. Although commerical guys get fined all the time. Usually 3-5k for taking way more fish than that. What makes zero sense to me is how a freshwater lake can be commercially netted all season long to supply the general population fish. But i am only allowed 6 for my possession limit?? This makes zero sense to me, along with many other things our MNR does. Jmo

I am taking a guess here that they were charged after the fact of overpossion, so the equipment cannot be taken then.
If caught during the comission of offense, then I would think that the boat and all equipment is subject to seizure.
Same applies to hunting , no?/ Extra moose iin your freezer would not mean you lose your firearm or truck for example.
Immediate loss of fishing privelages is another one that can be used altho a poacher is a poacher and would most ikely keep going on anyhow.

those fines are not enough if it was 1000.00 or 1500.00 for every fish over the limit it may have people stop and think before they do this . when they hand out your license they should give you a paper with the charges that have been handed out the previous year that way when people think about keeping to many fish or something else they may remember the fines handed out and not take a chance

Not enough! Imop.Greedy poachers!!And I also believe six in one day is too many! A pair of nice Walleye per person such as GB limit is sufficient! Imop Heavier fines and fishing privelidges revoked would be a blessing!

Comparing erie to g bay is like comparing apples to oranges. 2 completely different fisheries. The number of walleye in Erie is insane now. We did 40 in 2hrs the other day.
