OMG Nice fish!

I was out there today at and couldn't land one. So many chasers and they just kept stopping all of a sudden... so frustrating.

Question for the yourself and the forum. So lets say I'm fishing 100 ft of water.

I see a mark at 80ft. My lure is at 40 ft and dropping... the fish starts to scream up. What do I do? Do I keep letting it drop? Do I stop the lures descent and start reeling? I had so many follows like this today. One fish started following it down... but nothing... I tried stopping the lure and start reeling and the fish would stop and go back down. So frustrating.

Any help would be much appreciated. It got so frustrating that I fished bass for a bit and managed to land a 3.5 lber lol.

Nice fish! Also great sunrise picture, must have been a great morning out on the water. Looks like your hook did quite the number on the cheek of the one Laker!
Well done

Hi, for me, I usually leave bait/lure about 30 feet off bottom, watch the sonar, wait until laker comes up from bottom towards my bait and almost reaches my bait, then I start reeling in NON-STOP to play the laker-chase-my-bait game, until she commits, and then fish on:-) Cheers, and good luck next time.

Well done

Yes it was a beautiful and calm day on the water.

And the 2nd laker I landed, there is a big hole near its mouth, and I think it came from someone else's previous catch (and release) of the fish I am sure.

And the first BIG laker this morning on the tube (recorded by a buddy who happened to fish near me on the water at the time I fought and landed the fish):

Beee-ewww-taaay!

Excellent catch, and I thought I was doing well with my 12lb pike this afternoon...
Excuse me while I bow my head in shame.

I was out Friday and around 11:30 it got good until about 2:00, went 7 for 9.

Caught all types, an old boy blind in one eye, a few younger and some real fatso's.

I found they were really reacting to the dropping lures, eventually I would have to drop it a few times after they gave up. Sometimes they showed interest but they never fully committed.
I got a bit heavier on the scent..was a sweaty day. I also always adjust my speed to keep the fish "just gaining" on my lure.

When a fish starts to rise at my dropping lure, I wait until about 5 feet away or so, and do a sudden jerk at eh start of my retrieve got them excited.

the two young ones I got actually shot up after the initial chaser gave up.

Sometimes, minor difference can get that final step to happen.

Thanks very much for the advice! Much appreciated. I will try the jerking motion as you were saying. I had so many fish do that. I did get 2 marks chasing my lure, back off and then go for it again, but they would just stop dead. I will definitely try some scent, hopefully that makes the difference. What scent would you suggest?
