The smash...the mighty head-shake...the screaming line...the J-U-U-U-U-M-M-P...more screaming...until those three mighty words from the fisherman's bible were shouted with conviction and anxiety:

GET THE NET!

Although not a record by any means, nor even close to my PB, I thought that, at just shy of 4lbs., my prisoner would be worthy of a few pics. The one I've posted here is my favourite, and not a bad job for some strange 9-yr-old girl who showed up with her brother just as I started to fight the fish. She agreed to take a couple of pics and this is one of them.

It put up a great fight, showed me its best side and then was released to swim another day.

Now-w-w-w...next?

I was quite impressed with how solid the bars looked. They really stand out on a dark fish. Would you believe I caught it on a split shot and minnow? Tried all kinds of artificials: Mr. Twisters, Mepps/Blue Fox spinners, Shad Raps, Rapalas, and even a couple of small spoons. They simply wouldn't take any of it. I went and bought some minnows at a bait shop down the road a bit, came back, put one on, and WHAM!
