Giant Muskie Caught!

A photo of London angler Matt Elias and a large muskie — the kind people fly to northern Ontario to catch — has renewed questions about the value of fixing the broken dam just as the city finishes gathering public comment on the idea.

Elias caught the muskellunge, about 100 cm long and weighing about 8.6 kilograms, upstream of the broken dam on Labour Day weekend. The Free Press posted his photo on Facebook a few days ago.

Magnificent fish !! From the coloration it appears to be a tiger musky (cross of pike and muskie) That would be a very large one if indeed a tiger..

Tigers generally have a bar/spot pattern with spots on the gill cover ..Whatever it's a great fish..

I agree steelheader, an outstanding fish and it does appear to be a tiger.

Quite a few muskie venture up the Thames from its mouth in Lake St.Clair (a muskie factory). We hooked in to one while trying to catch walleye in a 12ft car topper. Broke off but fun while it lasted.

London has an interesting dilemma with the dam rebuild. Lakes/Ponds are popular with people, but many conservation authorities see them as a detriment to the health of the rivers and water quality.
