Fizzing bass and walleye

So on my way to becoming a better angler... Does bass pro or cabelas carry fizzers? Any suggestions on the safest way? by the pectoral fin or in the mouth?

Does anyone fizz bass? Especially around this time of year when you're bringing them up from 30 ft?

What is fizzing?

When you bring a bass or walleye up from 20 or 30 feet and it's swim bladder basically inflates because of the pressure change. Fizzing is the process of taking the pressure out of the fishes swim bladder so it can return to the deep if you are practicing catch and release.

Unless you put the fish in the live well, you will probably never have to fizz.

After reading the above article, I would think it's best left alone. If fish seldom need the procedure, and if you miss by even a millimetre, you can kill them, it's sounds to me as though your chances of doing more damage or causing more mortality are high.

Bring a fillet knife instead.

It happens with any fish you bring up from the depths quick. This time of year even perch from 40'. Trick is bring them up slow

There are a few different methods that pretty much do the same thing.

No matter how slowly you bring these fish to the surface from deep water, you won’t be able to prevent their bladders from inflating. In fact, reeling them up slowly may simply exacerbate the situation, and make their

safe release even more problematic.

^^^ Bingo. If they can'y burp then it doesn't matter how slow you bring them up. I think it's generally not a good idea to target fish that are almost certainly going to have their air bladders sticking out.

Another thing to consider is the greatest pressure change the fish goes through is going from water to air. If you don't take them out of the water they'll almost always make it back down.

After reading that article I see that. Ive only ever seen it happen a couple of times and it was when i brought them up quick. Ive been proven wrong apparently lol.

It happens quite often ice fishing on Nipissing from my experiences... The operators I've stayed with set up in around 30 feet..
