the water is lower now, especially now that the the power plants on both sides are taking off more water for the winter season.
They don't take off water for winter. That's what happens in Muskoka/Haliburton where the lake levels are lowered a bit to reduce spring flooding. That's not primarily for elec gen altough the plants may as well use it for that if it's being drained anyway. It's hard to imagine 'drawing down' Huron/Michigan by putting more thru the generators at N falls.

Harold what the taking water off is refering to the whirl pool levels. The Whirl pool drops drastically when water is taken from the upper Niagara to fill the resovoirs that power the Hydroelectric generators. This causes the Whirl Pool and Falls water level to drop several feet. The water put through the generators joins back in the system down stream of the Whirl Pool. In effect a vast amount of water is redirected around the falls for hydro generation. Take a look at the link I provided on the first page. The redirected water does not effect any of the Great Lake levels just a small portion of the upper Niagara, the falls itself and the lower Niagara from the drop down stream to where the generators outflow are.
Trust me it drops and rises with the generators schedule. I fished it for many years and guided the Niagara for a short time.

I thought that wishin fishin had the impression that they were somehow letting more thru because winter was coming on. What you say is true---I understand and agree.
