Ice Fishing DIY

Now that many are getting itchy for the ice fishing season I thought it would be a good time to swap ideas re DIY eqpt.

Here's 1 that I'm looking for----some sort of net and bungee arr't to stop loose gear from falling off the top of the sled or tobog. I'm not sure where I can buy some large mesh net.

Try Princess Auto. You can always use a pickup truck cargo net depending on how big your sled is. Works for mine but i dont have any pics of it in use.

I decided to try a suitably sized storage box with two sturdy latches so everything other than long rods could be stored securely and safely. I added a couple of stick-on circular reflectors facing aft and use good quality bungee cords to hold everything in place. I'm now on my second box but have never looked back at using a net and bungee arrangement. The boxes are still available at Walmart for around $20.00. It's great to arrive at your destination with everything dry, untangled and ready to use with no need to scrape off slush and snow or to clear the guides and reels of frozen slush. The box makes a great seat as well if needed.

GJ---is the box wood? I would assume that the plastic type are too flimsy to sit on. Any pix or link?

Cabellas has some plano storage boxes 56litre size on sale for $19.99 and the next sise up I think 65litre for $29.9I9. I sat on one. Seemed pretty sturdy.

I have some net type cloth if your near the pefferlaw area I can show you and have a piece to fit size . Would only need atiatch some clips or hooks to rig it up.

I use it to make minnow nets to get the minnows in the spring . Got it from value village a few years ago .

I'd love to see different ways guys have rigged up rod holders attached to their flip-over sled.

I have a Clam with the bench seat. I think it'd be slick to have the rod holder mounted within reach off the ice but haven't quite visualized the best way to make it work yet and am hesitant to just hack a few holes and see what works. Any ideas/tips from experience would be greatly appreciated... I can see lots of different ways that may work, what do you guys most effective? Quick to set up, convenient?

Something like this? Is it sturdy just hanging there in a hole in the sled?

They make similar rod holders that work well on a plastic pail, one on each side if your fishing two holes, drop your fish right in the pail, nice height when you are sitting, don’t have to reach far. I use this method outside a lot, it should work in a hut too.

I plan on making a kick sled this year,I have the sky's and an aluminum chair ,it's all in my head right now ,wish me luck .
