Hey there guys just wondering what what you think about the rapala jigging minnows I pick some up from bass pro but have heard mixed opinions on them. Are they a good perch lure.

Jigging raps are great for perch. Put a minnow head on the bottom treble. Works really well. If you don't use minnows put a half in small piece of white tubing. Deadly combo.

my theory about icefishing lures. -- buy as many as you can, as often as you can.

3 lures here and there begin to add up. once you have a decent arsenal of plano boxes full of lures then its just a matter of finding a school of perch.

with more lures, you get more confident in getting perch to bite.

most lurees will usually work, its all about location.

Thanks guys I try to stick to minnow type lures or jig tiped with wax worms or minnow but I want to try and find some new baits Too like spoons.


I am also very curious why people suggest putting on a minnow head instead of a whole minnow is there something about the head they like.

full minnows are hard for average size perch to eat, with only the head, the bait falls more naturally, and keeps some of its action. with jsut the head, the bait is easily eaten by big-average size perch.

and when you pinch off a head, you release juices that perch/other fish love.

there is a time and place for full minnows but i prefer heads.

You get those days when no matter what you throw they dont want it ands its always what you didnt bring it seems theyre biting on lol.

SLAB CRABBERS pretty much all I use. Might switch bead colors and size. Just don't like messing with minnows on the ice. Very seldom come back to Mi. with out 100 slabs.

All my buddy's use slab grabbers but I was looking at some the other day in the store they look so big to be a perch lure.

Slab grabers come in different sizes...my go to is the nothetlands buck shot spoon thay have a new one out this year that glows. Looking forward to trying them out ...

I fish with a fly tied about 8-12" above a jigging rap. Always fun getting double headers set up that way and not uncommon. The jigging rap mimics a smaller fish chasing the fly. The perch love/hate it and will bite.

yea thats true what about rods what u rigged up with medium,light, ultra light which rod gives you the best feel with the slab grabbers.

Had a great perch ice season last year with the ultra light rippin rap in the 04 size - they really call in the true jumbos. Rap just came out with a smaller 03 size too, I stocked up I think they're going to be deadly. Pair them up with a 23-27" light action rod and you'll have a lot of fun with them.
