I fish chemong regularly and you have to jig to get fish consistently, do not use live bait of any kind.

Somebody was driving his half ton on Chemong south of the causeway today. Around 10 inches of ice where I had my hut set up, could hear the cracks like crazy as he drove around. surprisingly they didn't go through.

Had 10 inches of solid black ice yesterday. And 12 today. Northern end of lake. Fishing was slow today but better than yesterday. Saw a truck crossing the lake today as well.

10" of ice should be plenty for vehicles. Trouble is it's not all 10, varies with current etc.

Marking tons of fish, can't get them commit to a bit very well though. Guy beside me was killing it the other day, he caught a 100 fish. I caught like 6.
I Was using pinhead minnows, then tried fake minnows and some tiny tubes, assorted colours. And a variety of spoons, jigs and lures. Had no problem get fish to come up and check it out regardless of what I was using,, but was having a lot of trouble the last couple times out getting them to commit to a bite.
