Well, the fishing wasn't stellar but the weather certainly was for our final weekend of boating/fishing. For some reason, fishing around here is never great for us around the full moon but I had high hopes.
Glenn started out Friday with a bang by catching a beautiful 29" chunky pike which we decided to keep as were not sure how many we will get like this from shore. After that things slowed down but Glenn also managed to get 3 other keeper perch to add to the livewell. I managed a few perch but couldn't get anything worth keeping.
Saturday as another great day with calm winds so we decided to go trolling for muskie. This is something we don't normally do as it's usually too windy to get out to 40 acres but we also don't like to troll. Seeing as it was late fall and the muskie bite is suppose to be on, we gave it a go for about an hour but didn't mark a thing. There were 3 other boats out in the same area and didn't see any of them catch anything either.
We think decided to switch over to perch fishing so we wouldn't be skunked. We did manage a few but nothing worth keeping but still no skunk. A few pike were also in the area but didn't want to bite.
Sunday was much like Saturday and after trying a few spots to locate some bass, we again gave up and fished for perch. The water was super clear and could have had something to do with the lack of fish biting. Again, a few perch caught but nothing special.
This year had it's ups and downs with the latest launch date for us on Bass opener, lots of super high water which kept the trailer park closed, once the rains stopped, the fish also seemed to stop biting. It was a tough year for a lot of people but we seemed to be dialed into the perch for most of the season.
Boat is now tucked away in the garage and being prepared for winter. Lets hope we can get it out earlier next year.
Glenn's 29" pike, the highlight of the weekend....
