Underwater Camera for ice fishing/jigging, opinions and experience please!

hello all!

with the weather starting to change ice fishing prep begins.

would love to add a trick to the hut this year, with purchasing an Underwater camera.

must have at least 30m (98 feet) of cable and be able to turn the lights on and off.

lets start talking about what people are using or have used in the past and talk about some good/bad points.

I had the fish tv,great in shallow water,terrible in deep water,clarity was poor even with the light on,batteries didn't last long.

I bought one off Ebay came from China. Eyoyo with a 30M cable. Was quite clear and easy to use. Big problem and reason I don't or won't use it, is sure as sh×× the fish wrap your line around it 9 times outta 10 even if it's down another hole a few feet away lol. I lost a few nice ones last winter because of it.

I second that, you will get tangled up sometimes but it's a great tool to see what's down there looking at your bait if you are in new waters..

I have the Fish TV and only use it for perch. A couple years back, after being frustrated trying to face the camera towards my lures (difficult if there is any current) I turned the camera so it points down. Now its like sight fishing for perch but you don't get the sore neck from looking down the hole all day. I put it down just till the bottom is visible ( usually 12' off bottom). It also keeps the kids entertained which means longer days on the ice.

I have a Fish TV. Black and white, decent sized screen (7") and can be powered by a 12 V. I thoroughly enjoyed using a family friends while in Saskatchewan for pike and walleye. Always a joy to see what is around and what lures they are interested in. Had a pike come and smash a lure and ended up bending the hook one time. The TV didn't warn me about that fish though.

Depending on the clarity of the water you can normally see 6-10 ft in front and it shows the whites of walleye fins pretty distinctively as well.

Bought mine for $70 off Kijiji. Normally they are $120ish

I have one use it all the time, mine is also wireless uses a wifi hot spot so you can use ypur phone or tablet.
When setting it up just put it behind you this prevents getting tangled up and losing fish.

I have owned Cabelas, C-Fish, Aqua-Vu and Marcum. Hands down, Marcum is the best brand. Owned 4 Marcum models and never had a problem with any.

You must have newer marcums cause the originals were junk. Leaking cameras , blown boards and crap Monitors. I sent three separate ones back before I gave up on them

I bought Marcum Recon5 last season and I love it ! I can watch how my lure moves or looking down towards the bottom as well.

All I need is either a manual/ automatic camera rotater so that I don't have to keep holding/spinning my camera line while I'm jigging !

Hey uglystick84 I have the vexilar fishphone. I use it in 30ft of water in the boq and current moves pretty good, any deeper water is dirty so hard to see. Not sure what you mean by how far the wi-fi goes the app you download creates a wi-fi hot-spot you can go anywhere. I hope this helps
