Tips on Studding your boots, Ordered some screws, any advice?

Sick and tired of my cleats falling off at the worst times, (putting them back on with full gear on is usually no small task) i have a pair of titans i only use for the ice so i figured if just put some screws in em and be done with it. Found a good deal and ordered some of the Kold Kutter Ice Screws (i know regular hex head screws would work but these should last longer and i got a pretty good deal)

Thought id see if anyone else had done it and had any tips before i go at it. Was thinking of putting some silicone or glue on the screws but i suppose then they would be tough to replace.

I use an adhesive silicone or construction adhesive on mine. it helps prevent water/ice buildup in between the screws and boot and creates a nice tight seal. Have not lost a screw yet and if you had to replace one, that would mean the entire screw is missing so no worries about removal due to adhesive. These things should not wear out before your boot. make sure to add a couple to the toe and heal area and not just the sides and center.

best thing I've ever done to my boots. you will love not having to deal with strap on cleats.

might be just me, but i use my ice fishing boots for other stuff shoveling snow, fishing in muddy water etc, so i might walk on my drive way with it, or might even walk on hardwood floor!!

i invested in a really nice pair of cleats and just use that. works great and in the ice fishing season just leave the cleats on.

I have size 13 baffin titans... There isn't much else you can do in them lol. Wayyyyy to warm to be used for anything else, definitely couldn't drive in them.

I have regular insulated rubber boots and non insulated rubber boots for other uses.

If you've already ordered them then so be it, but ive been using sheet metal screws in my wading boots for years now and they seldom wear out and are very cheap. I find I need to replace the odd one now and again, but I don't bother putting any adhesives on.

Like thanh said, put an adhesive on and they will likely outlast your boots.

I was once in a motel a few miles from the lake we were fishing so we got suited up in the motel. Made a quick stop at the gas station, and I almost took out the first rack of chips when I stepped on the tile floor. It was like walking on marbles.

No damage done on asphalt or concrete driveways with these. I actually use my boots with the screws on to shovel my driveway and have yet to slip when pushing around heavy snow and I find that it helps a ton. In mud, you don't even notice they are there. I do agree on not using them on tile. My boots never make it in the house/stores anyways.

Do it! I did mine last year and kicked myself for not doing it earlier. The boots are dedicated just for ice fishing.

very true, I have giant boots as well, but I orded some cleats from china, for 20USD, and what I did was use galvanized steel wire (16 guage) to make the cleats bigger, now they fit perfectly and life is so easy.

Sorry i cant help with studding your boots btw, thought I would just give my 2 cents lol

I had a pair of NEO over boots with studs on it and I wasn't a fan. I like sliding around when I want to.

I did put shoe glue in the screw holes to help keep the studs from falling out. I had them for 5 seasons using them all the time for work and everything. Only ever lost 1 screw.

This sounds very interesting as I have a mobility issue and am unsteady on snow and ice! I've a pair of velcro studs for the balls of my feet and those spiral wire rubber cage jobs that actually make things worse -- the wire "rolls" and or clogs up with snow. Thanks for posting!

I've just gotten a pair of boots dedicated to ice fishing as well. What length are the threads on those screws?

Well put about 25 in each boot, siliconed them in, looked good... lost every screw on the first day...
