ripley -- you've struck a chord with a lot of members on here I see, me included, lol.
My Old Boy was an 11-year-old rescue that was on euthanasia row, all full of lumps and tumours. I took Boston outta there, and he flourished for the next four years before finally declining. He had gone blind, deaf, had a stroke and couldn't walk, but I rigged up a sling for his bathroom trips outside and he recovered. I truly believe he was livin' on love, lol. For four years that dog was so loyal and happy. After having two shepherds before him that were both 15 years+ with me, I cried every bit as much, if not more, the day I had to put him down. It was two years ago this past Monday.
Here's a pic of us at our last Tim's drive thru before his "appointment." I was crying in the pic. We actually gave him a very spiritual burial at a friend's farm, complete with a sage smoking to ensure he passed over without any difficulties, even made sure the appointment was during the waning phase of the moon. Terrible how they grab our hearts, isn't it? Humans should care about their fellow man this much, really.
