Hi Folks:
We are currently out on Snake Island. I was driving on the interior island road this afternoon and I saw 2 large, primarily black with white - birds flying over the lake off the SW point of Snake Island opposite Innisfil. So I stopped to check out the birds cuz I couldn't tell what species they were. To my surprise they were eagles (with the largest wing span I have ever seen - except perhaps for a blue heron but I knew it wasn't a blue heron cuz of the colour and the lack of the long legs extending behind the bird).
The eagles circled and dove about 10 times for something in the lake and finally they flew away with their prize - heading SW towards Cooks Bay.
Trust me - seeing the eagles made my day. I have heard of other eagle sightings in an around this area and I hope they are indeed making a come back.

I watched one last year sitting right on the edge of the ice about 200 yards off shore. It let me get to about 100 ft away before flying off and I had one land on the tree on the point at the cottage this fall. Beautiful big Bald Eagles.
