Black Betty/In-line Reels

I won’t lie I love having the next best thing on the market in terms of fishing gear. Which makes me wonder about 13 Fishing’s Black Betty or their Ghost model. But $100 or $150 for an ice reel? Is it worth it? So ya it has a dropper to fed line down with the touch of a finger but, from what I’ve read and been told an in line reel will make your jig/lure presentation more stationery or spin less versus conventional spinning reels. Some say increasing the bite substantially. Any other advantages?

So any Black Betty users, in-line users, advice, tips, experiences? I’m assuming they can be paired with normal spin rods?

I have one and absolutely love it. Definitely took a while to get used to but once I did, I’d never go back to spinning on the ice. Main benefit is virtual elimination of line twist but close behind are the push button bail release and adjustable spool tension to control release speed. The torque and retrieval ratio are also great. I use it on a Tuned Up Custom Rod (precision model) which blows away any ice rod I’ve used.

I saw this reel but wasn't sure how it worked. Sounds interesting. Does it ice up less when outside?

a baitcaster will also give a no twist presentation and a low profile one fits nicely on an ice rod. i tried an inline and the thing was so fragile I broke the inner gears while applying only slight pressure. interesting reel type to try out, but i wouldn't buy another one.

My buddy's thinking about getting one for his new 13 Tickle stick and I might get one for a TUCR. But I'm wondering which one to get, are the 13 Fishing models the ones to go with or if anyone has a recommendation for another brand?

All depends on the one you had. I started with others and they were garbage. The 13 fishing ones are top notch in my opinion.

I would stick to the 13 fishing or the eagle claw (aluminium spool!!)

Yes- 13 are the ones to get and the TUCR precision will blow you away for Simcoe perch

I have a question, are they good for lake trout and white fish or mainly for pan fish like perch and crappie?
