What happens if you lose your fishing license?

I think you get a temporary outdoors card printed the same way as the fishing license.

Be careful with this, though I’d forgot my fishing license on the table at home when I drove 3 hours to fish. Saw the OPP boat, and went over and had a chat, mentioned I had an E copy, but had forgot my hard copy. Asked if that’s as legal, he said it was not, but, he wouldn’t give a ticket if someone produced an E copy and was cooperative, but told me he couldn’t assure me the answer if I was stopped by someone else. Ended up finding the hard copy in my wallet, so it wasn’t an issue.

few years ago i was on Kbay and left my wallet in the truck when i changed into my floater. The CO came by and i realized my wallet was 400 meters away up Bill Goat hill so I asked if I could walk over and get it, he said he would call it in with my name and address but warned me the licence is suppose to be on you so technically he could have fined me even though i was renewed for 3 years; really nice officer for giving me a break and if you know Bill Goat that is not a hill you want to climb twice in one day; once he called it in everything was fine but if i was lying i'm pretty sure he would have thrown the book at me.

Same thing happened to me at the same spot. Maybe we got the same CO but he let me off as well after calling it in. Be nice and maybe you just might get a break. I wish it was the same here as in Florida. Pay a one time fee for life to get your license and you are good to go!

You are issued the temp outdoor card $9.68 ( paper ) Hard card is mailed to your address. You are issued the fishing license as a paper one because it would be a sticker on you OD card when it arrives or a yellow tag depending how you buy you license. Just like a deer tag. Ranges from $16 -$30 depending on the 1 year license you buy. They print it out and have to carry both with you. Need the outdoors card for any fishing or hunting you do. Outdoors card tells C.Os that you're a licensed to fish or hunt and what instruments you can use to hunt if you do both. H1( firearms and arrows) vs H2 ( arrows only )


For Ontario and Canadian Residents, a complete and valid licence to
fish consists of an Outdoors Card or a TEMPORARY OUTDOORS CARD
accompanied by a valid fishing licence tag. The Outdoors Card is a
plastic, wallet-sized card valid for three calendar years and used for
identification and administration purposes. The licence tag is carried
either as a document separate from the Outdoors Card or printed on the
back of the card when the licence and Outdoors Card are purchased or
renewed at the same time. Note: Outdoors Cards are not required with
1-day licences.

Remember this......If you get the wrong CO on the right day, they will throw the book at you. Had a buddy on his way out to his hut that didn't have a hole punched and no fishing equipment in it, but he was bringing the equipment out with him. The CO stopped him on route to his hut and charged him with "being in the act of fishing" because he had the rods and bait etc in his possession and no license on him. His fishing license was in his truck about 300 yards away and that's what lead to the charges even though he had more stuff to bring to the hut...along with his license.

Yep! Best to always just follow the law to a T, normally COs are pretty good, but, as I'm sure everyone does, they have off days. Hence my warning on using an E copy, as technically it is illegal.

Seriously tho with the way the ice has been in the last few years I would save the hassle and the $10 and just get his 2018 license

Ya, didn’t know if there was a cost involved or not. Will just wait for 2018 more then likely to bring him. I myself is hoping for a before Xmas ice...

The rule states that if you have fishing gear on you, regardless if your in the actual act of fishing, you must have a license. Heard stories of guys out here getting tickets while duck hunting cause they had a pole with a big treble hook for retrieving ducks. Youd probably get a reduced fine, but technically to the letter of the law, he was in the wrong. But, that's a BS charge really, no holes, and is not done getting all his crap out there.

To be honest I think any reasonable judge would have canceled that fine right away. It's not like you did not have a fishing license at all (especially if the license was in the car close by)...
