Advice, Fishing boat

I was going through the upgrade madness and settled on one after extensive searching.

I checked out the Alumacraft 185 Competitor at a marina that rhymes with harshes in Wabushene. Very nice boat, but a Tiller (as that’s what I want). They do come in side and duel consoles though, so worth looking at.

New would be a bit high in the price range, but you might come across a used one right where you need to be.

I decided to avoid the 2 foot blues and ordered a Competitor 205 as this is likely a boat I will keep for the next 20 years. As much as I love a steering wheel and windshield, I love my space and fishability more so I kept with my tradition of a Tiller boat. Ordered from a marine store in Fergus that rhymes with romanced. 😀

Based on my boarderline OCD research, Alumacraft and Lund were my top choices for several reasons, and as much as I loved the Lund’s, the Alumacraft has better rod Storage, fuel capacity, livewell size, hull thickness, etc etc etc... and was less $$$.

I have a wide 16 1/2 tiller with 60hp, I find its good for 2. 3 is crowded, so 18ft for 4 is the way to go. Just my .02

Went to Boatwarehouse in Coldwater today. Some nice ones there. Lowe’s Seems like a good place. Friendly people etc. Boat show in TO in January might be the place to check them all out

Can't say anything bad about them ... Boats been rock solid and with a Honda on the back I've never had any issues...
We went with Lowe because of the warranty. The floors are guaranteed for life to the original owner. Don't think that warranty is offered anymore but I could be wrong.. My boat is not a new boat any more but looking at it you would never know..
Boat show is a great place to see what's best for you...

16ft model.. But it's almost 16½... Some days when the weather is bad its all a can handle by myself... One reason I didn't want the 18 ft model...... Definitely tight when 4 people are casting but I Jig almost all the time so we never have any problems.
Just be happy with what you get and like everyone says max out your HP from the start........ Definitely hit the boat shows..

300, you need to anticipate what your family likes too. Example; is it possible your kids may want to get into watersports? And your wife and kids want to do some cruising etc.

A lot of variables to consider.
