Not me, but my buddy purchased a fishing license last hard water, well, I'm hoping to get him out again before new years. But, he has lost his license, and its pointless to buy another so close to new years. He bought it online, but didn't save it. What can be done?

Suggestion .... Take a pic with your phone of both license and card next time, that way you always have it with you.... Unless you lose that too. Worked for me last year when MNR officer checked me.🙂

I don't believe you can actually have a fishing license without an outdoor card...
Yes, I believe you can have a fishing license without an outdoor card.
For example, if you are applying for both fishing license and outdoor card at the same time for the very first time at say Canadian tire, you will get a temporary fishing license with you, but you will NOT have a (temporary or not) outdoor card with you. Hence effectively/actually you are having a fishing license without an outdoor card (while you are awaiting your outdoor card with "permanent" fishing license to arrive at your mailbox). Or no?:-)

Don't need a card if you purchase a 1 day license. All others require the purchase of the card first. If you buy your license 1 year at a time the subsequent ones will be a separate tag that you keep with the card. So the possibility exist you can have your card but misplace the tag.

I am a licence issuer. You can not purchase a fishing licence( other than a one day sport) without a valid outdoors card. Cards are good for 3 years but you have the option to purchase a one year or a 3 year licence at time of issue of a new card.
It is possible that he had a valid outdoors card so he could purchase a one year licence only.
Here is the kicker. You MUST present your outdoors card AND your current fishing licence when asked by a CO or OPP. Failure can result in fines.
Your friend has the option to reprint his licence online, There will be a copy if he has a valid tag. Not sure if there is a cost but I would assume that there is.
OR
Go to a valid licence issuer and have a replacement card and licence printed. Cost will be just under $13, but that is much cheaper than a fail to present licence fine.

What I am saying is:
If I have never had an outdoor card nor a fishing license, and then I walk into a store (be it BPS, CT or DOS, etc) to get my very first outdoor card and very first fishing license. Then
1. I will be issued a temporary fishing license, that is I will have the fishing license (a piece of paper) physically with me, but
2. I will NOT be issued a temporary outdoor card at this time (by the time I leave the store)
Hence, at this time I do have a fishing license with me, and yet I do NOT have an outdoor card with me.

Now that it has been said, I do believe he actually did buy the outdoors card too, but, I’m sure he has lost it too. My buddy is not to good with those things lol, along with the fact he only fishes when I pull him along, makes for a bad combo lol. Thanks for the help I’ll let him know.
