Looking at weather forecast at this moment, tomorrow Wednesday night, Thursday night, and Saturday night and Sunday night, temperature all down to below or around -10C. Perhaps by next Tuesday (Dec 26, the day after Christmas) I could head out for some perching on Simcoe?:-)

I feel bad for the EMS, police and fire who may have to miss christmas with their young families to perform rescue duties.

Early ice you have to be safe but I have been out twice this year but with nothing worth reporting. It's a slow walk out with as little gear as you need and spud your way. Stay safe over the weekend

That report was a sled going through the ice....the second one this year.....surely nobody in this forum is thinking of taking a sled or ATV onto the ice.....careful spudding and knowledge of the water you are on is the only thing that will work best at this point.......me....I will wait two more weeks....no fish is worth my life or taking a cold dip.....and I wear a floater suit.

while i'm not the type to go on this early ice i would hope anybody who does takes the care to properly spud and apply common sense. Not sure what an article about a snowmobile going through the ice has to do with this tread, somebody travailing on 600 to 800lbs machine vs a group with rope and spud bars but hey i guess we need to make our point as to why we stay off the ice until we deem it safer.

Remember no safe ice so when i get out in the new year i am still taking a risk, again a calculated and somewhat educated one but others who do not ice fish my think this is crazy. i snowmobile on that bay where the sled went through; i have seen airplanes land while out sledding right next to me, if one crashed through the ice would i post that article on the snowmobile forum to make my point if i dont sled on lakes...

As anxious as we all are, I'll be waiting till the new year to get out.

However, I'll be doing drive by's daily.

Play safe guys, it'll be here before we know it !

Floater suits, spuds, spikes and whistles.

Darwins theory of natural selection will weed out the stupid ones that go out on the ice anytime soon. i am sick and tired of reading in the Georgina Advocate every year about guys going thru the ice and leaving behind family and loved ones. be smart and wait a couple more weeks till the ice is solid.

definition....

Natural selection ..... The process in nature by which, according to Darwin's theory of evolution, only the organisms best adapted to their environment tend to survive and transmit their genetic characters in increasing numbers to succeeding generations while those less adapted tend to be eliminated.
