Electric augers

Anyone have any experience with electric augers?

More specifically this one at Costco:

RAZR Lithium 40 V 20.3 cm (8 in.) Ice Auger with Reverse Function

I've only used gas powered ones in the past considering batteries and the cold don't go so well together, not sure what to expect of this one?

I purchased an ION auger at CTC two years ago with the same description as you have mentioned and its the cats a##. All you have to do is keep the battery in your hut when your not using it and they work well. I used it two years in a row without charging it. They cut through the ice like butter. I am very happy with mine

I went with the clam auger+hammer drill option. all together it cost me around 500$...

it really added up quickly, but now i have a good hammer drill with 3 batteries LOL

Well, I got the auger delivered this week.
The battery was put on charge and it's not the lightest thing.
But just turned to spin it, doesn't seem to be that fast?
This thing better have serious torque!

The ion is also a pretty slow turner, but it cuts just fine. The only issue I ever have is when the ice is thick the weight of all the shavings can really bog it down. So long as you lift up a few times at the half way point to dump the shavings out of the hole you should be good to go!

there is a video of a guy from USA, wisconsin, drilling through a foot of (white ish) ice, so not the best ice. but he drilled like 140 holes or something witht his auger?

however, the price is around 600$, thats a lot of money to drill so many holes, and you only get an auger. if you go hammer drill set up with clam auger should cost around 500, and you get a decent drill.

Heading to LV in January, was thinking about having the Clam adapter plate ordered and shipped to the hotel to bring back in my carry on.
I already have the drill, maybe purchase a new 5ah battery to go along with it...

I have a strikemaster lithium 40 volt with a 10 in bit.
Lets just say you would have to pry it from my cold dead hands to get it!

i broke down and got the clam plate this year, since i got a second m18 fuel hammer drill this summer i will never need to remove the drill and it will be my ice only set up

the electric auger looks like a great option congratulations i'm sure you will love it now bring on the ice so we can see it in action!!
