Sad to say I'm on the ice with 3 McDonkers breakfast sandwiches and a thermos of hot coffee... I thought this was a staple for ice fishermen lol
it is a staple for ice fisherman!! however, some ice fisherman like me, hate dealing with mcdonalds before I ice fish. to be honest, I cant deal with anything before I get on the ice. in my head, i wake up and i have to get on the ice ASAP, no time for mcdonalds right before. making a pitstop is around 5 minute detour. which is almost as long as it takes to get unpacked.
i will treat myself to fast food, if I get it the night before, however i rather prep my own food at that point.

This is the the simplest way to make the rack. Although there are other ways using a separate making rack..

Stop heating canned food in the can! The stuff that coats the inside is toxic, so much so they need to wear masks when coating it. When you heat it, you melt it into the food your eating. Extremely unsafe and bad for you. Suggest buying a little pot or something of that nature you can strap onto it in the same way, but to pour the food from the can into it. Just a friendly heads up

Fast food breakfast sandwich is good to get the day going and keep you full for a bit. Then I'm with those who bring cured meats, sausages etc. Sometimes Portuguese places have fatty cuts of pork that are fresher than cold cuts but still good if you can't go to the effort of heating them up on the ice.

im with kier on this one. bring a steel pot, NOT ALUMINUM. look into the harms of aluminum cookware. if you want to go light weight, go with titanium.
also choose wooden utensils for cooking. wont scratch pans like steel utensils, and plastic really isn't that good either.

My body is one of those where if new food goes in old food has to come out in the next 1/2 hour to an hour so large meals aren't an option. Can be an issue out on the lake:) I just bring soft candy like big feet. Gives a bit of energy. When I fished simcoe I was usually off the ice by 2 or 3 so just hit the harveys at 89 for something to nibble on for the ride home and was able to make it to the sh%$ter at home. Now that the hut is 200 yards from the house I just go up for meals:)
