Hi Folks:

Took a drive up to the lake this afternoon to check on the lake/ice conditions.

Wasn't sure what I would discover following the cold spell last week along the above zero temperature today.

I observed a mixed bag of conditions in Island Grove channel area between the mainland and Snake Island.

The channel had some ice cover but there were also areas that appeared to be open water.

There was clearly open water beyond both ends of the Snake Island out in the main lake.

The shoreline along the mainland had what appeared to be 3 inches of ice - primarily made up of ice patties - some of which appeared to have reformed into solid ice sheets while there were also large drifts of ice patties.

Although the ice conditions have changed since last week I personally will not be venturing out on the ice for the foreseeable future unless a cold front hits this area for the better part of a week.

I will also post a few additional photos of today's ice conditions.

On a positive note: apparently the York Regional Police marine unit was out training and/or practicing ice rescues in the Island Grove area today in preparation for possible problems during the upcoming hard water season.

That's all for now, Nancy
