Female Perch, Conservation practice

Hey guys you can jump on me if you want but lets be proactive and release those 12, 13 and 14 inch beautifull ladies full of roe. That way we'll have an endless supply of Perch in the future for ourselves, kids and grandchildren for many years to come. Just saying.

Agree 100%. It's nice to bring home a bucket of fish but I'll generally throw back the smallest and biggest. There's nothing wrong with keeping some Jumbos just don't be greedy. I know to each their own but we all should definitely do our part to help the conservation of the Jumbos for future generations.

VERY well put. 13 + inch jumbos should be released, imo. keep them for a picture, then let em go.

bigger perch accumulate more mercury, even though perch are one of the "cleaner species" the larger they are, the more toxins they have. also they have bigger bones and are a bit tougher than smaller perch that taste Oh So GOOD.

imo 9 - 11 inch perch are the best eating!!!

all produce similar sized fillets that cook evenly and are great eating.

with jumbo jumbo perch, (13+) the top portion of the fillet takes longer to cook than the rib section (almost half the thickness)

simcoe has a strong perch fishery, that can always get stronger.

I agree the 11 inch perch are perfect size,
and taste way better than those big female full of eggs.

Yeah I'll keep a few 14 inchers but I would NEVER take home a limit of fish that size.

imo 14 inchers a bit too big. at that point minus well target a diff species if looking for eaters that size. more toxins and tougher meat = less tasty/safe than an 11 incher.

but to each their own, the mnr out line limits, and as long as you follow the guidelines its OK in my book. just personally, rather eat the 11's

I al ways do my part in perch conservation, i continue to release all the 17-20 inch i catch!

Perhaps the forum should also mention how to identify if the perch is male or female?

I keep the 9-11 inchers if I take some home. Anything under or over that mark goes back for a swim.
