Nice long cold spell, little to no snow, low winds... all signs are pointing to a potential New Years Day opener!
I've been doing my research, and from what I've seen the Laker grounds have been busy making ice, don't take it from me, I'm just going off of the latest weather patterns, and reports I've seen. Let's hope for some more good reports today.
My New Years resolution is to ice my first Laker. Fingers crossed. Picked up a new 13 Fishing 36" Med/Heavy Fast Action rod, got all my tackle ready, safety gear in check, tying off some flouro leaders and stinger hooks today while at work. I'll be ready, now it's just up to Lady Simcoe.
Hope everybody has a happy and safe New Years/Opener!

Good luck on your first trout fella, its a great feeling. There will be safe ice for the deep water opener just check as you go as it will vary. In these weather conditions she should be making between 1.5 and 3 inches of ice per day depending on snow cover etc.
